Starting from the 1970s casinos began spreading worldwide. It’s only natural that people were more keen on playing the version of roulette with only one zero. The thing this is if the ball hits zero or double zero, all bets on the table lose, except for bets on zero. What’s called European roulette, the kind with only one zero was developed in Germany as a way to decrease the house edge and compete against other casinos. Earlier versions also had a symbol of an eagle as a slot to symbolize American liberty. It has two house slots, zero and double zero. It is quite ironic that the type of roulette we now call American was originally French. By the end of the century, roulette was apparently common, as it began being mentioned in fiction. First reports of roulette tables in casinos appear as early as 1758.
It is unknown who was the first person to come up with roulette, but it quickly spread across casinos in France. It used a wheel to determine a winning number as well. The most probable theory tells us that the invention of the game that was going to become one of the main components of a casino was inspired by an Italian lotto-like game at the beginning of the 18th century.
